这是2007年版欧洲各国合拍的<战争与和平>中主人公之一安德烈公爵临终前说的话(片段: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQmGh2kfNdA, Youtube的视频没法直接贴,不敢有气愤,只有无奈和遗憾!).

这句话给扎扎爸留下不灭的印象, 当时我却想不起来出自小说的 哪个章节段落. 花了二十分钟查, 读了安德烈战场受伤后寻找阅读<福音书>的章节(第三卷第三部32), 又读了安德烈临终的章节(第四卷第一部15), 遍寻不着; 最后,倒是在第二卷第二部12中,找到皮埃尔在畅谈共济会理想时对安德烈说过这样的话:

中文: “假如有上帝，有来生，那么就会有真理和美德，人的至高无上的幸福乃在于竭力追求真理和美德。要活下去，要爱，要有信仰，”皮埃尔说，“我们不仅是今天在这一小片土地上生活，而且曾经生活过，将来要永恒地在那里，在一切领域里（他指指天上）生活。”

英文: "If there is a God and future life, there is truth and good, and man's highest happiness consists in striving to attain them. We must live, we must love, and we must believe that we live not only today on this scrap of earth, but have lived and shall live forever...."

说 来惭愧, <战争与和平>不是扎扎爸年轻时候喜欢读的书, 托尔斯泰的其他小说也不是. 大概是因为年轻逆反的缘故, 那时候的扎扎爸非常排斥那些有关个人道德伦理和国家民族命运的说教,以为都是皇亲国戚达官贵人自欺欺人的宣传; 相比之下,扎扎爸更喜欢钻研陀思妥耶夫斯基的小说, 感受其中的市井小人物的梦想浪漫和现实残酷. 记得那年头,广播里有一段时间连播<复活>, 扎扎爷爷听得有滋有味, 可是扎扎爸却不以为然. 这也不奇怪, 浑浑噩噩不自量力如扎扎爸者, 在没有搞明白"One must live"前, 连"One must love"都不懂; 更何况"One must believe"了.

记得扎扎姑倒是从小爱读<战争与和平>; 多少受这部书的影响感悟, 后来到了美国,很快就有了信仰,早早实现了"One must believe".

上 个月扎扎哥的Literature课上读到"War and Peace", 扎扎妈给他从Amazon订了本. 终于发现一家人思想兴趣有交集, 扎扎爸赶紧电视里放上2007年版的"War and Peace", 四个小时的四集长剧, 竟然一家人(包括扎扎)从头看到尾, 真是多年少有的奇观. 十多年前扎扎爸妈一起看国内探亲带出来的邦达丘克的俄版<战争与和平>长剧以及扎扎爸独自观赏普罗科菲耶夫的<战争与和平>歌 剧, 相比之下, 貌似人人都长进了一节儿!

不管是安德烈还是皮埃尔说的, 扎扎爸现在对"One must live; One must love; One must believe"渐有感悟. 从几十年前读到这句话的平淡中文翻译"要活下去，要爱，要有信仰"无动于衷, 到现在被它的英文翻译而触动; 扎扎爸理解这句话花了几十年; 这中间, 扎扎爸一路蹒跚走来,从"One must live/得过且过",到"One must love/有爱就爱", 终于过渡到了"One must believe/因信得信";这全是神的恩典, 得感激!
